Il testo di questa canzone pubblicata l’8 dicembre del ’76, descrive l’Hotel California. Hotel o Stato? Alla mente dell’ascoltatore ed in tal caso viaggiatore è lasciata la libera interpretazione!

Senza dubbio, viene “cantata” una struttura di gran lusso dove «puoi lasciare libera la stanza quando vuoi ma non potrai andartene mai». Per alcuni, un’allegoria dell’edonismo e dell’auto-distruzione dell’industria musicale della California del sud nella fine degli anni settanta. Per altri, l’interpretazione della bella vita a Los Angeles e sull’oscura vulnerabilità del sogno americano.
